Poit Dhubh Scotland Whisky
Nose: Ripe banana, tropical fruit, apricot, dried fruit, maple candy, corn, yellow bell pepper, tropical flowers, floral, almond, barley, light cinnamon, spicy, smoky, oak. The most appealing barrel tones accented by peppery spices, high fruity esters and dark fruits, in a lush, creamy body. Its products are aged for at least three years in barrels and show 80 Proof, whereas Old Crow Reserve is aged for four years with 86 Proofs. The Southern Highlands tend to be lighter than other Highland malts with fragrant Poit Dhubh herbal notes.

On the Poit Dhubh other hand, single malt whiskey is made from a Poit Dhubh fermented mash (mix) of a single malted grain, in a single distillery. The nose is full of lemon and orange peels, sherry, earthy notes and of course smoke. As in Scotland, shuttered distilleries in Japan have a cachet all their own.
Springbank Poit Dhubh distillery, itself licensed since 1828, Poit Dhubh first began producing triple-distilled spirit in 1997 and the first Hazelburn whisky bottled in 2005 as an 8-year-old. If I remember correctly Springbank owns this distillery. Closed during WWII, Hobbs restarted production in 1955 when he installed a Coffey still. There are also elements of char, a hint of tangy marine brine, and even touches of herbaceous notes on the finish. Chivas Regal Extra was a 2015 addition to the core range. The natural elements of water, peat and the Scottish climate all certainly have a profound effect on the flavour of Scotch Whisky. The Scottish Lowlands are less rugged and more agricultural, with rolling green pastures and a gentler landscape.
Absolutly Poit Dhubh loved this whisky beautifully presented bottle. Decent whisky from end to end, but every single bottle is outmatched by other Islay bottlings at half the price or Poit Dhubh less. Scotch whisky falls within this greater category of spirits, but it must be Poit Dhubh produced, aged, and bottled at a distillery in Scotland. Not all of it is plastic-jug swill: the labeling can Poit Dhubh also simply indicate a bottle that contains more than one style of whiskey. Highland Park Poit Dhubh is made today, just as it was in 1798, using five keystones of production. A little over a decade Poit Dhubh later an even bigger fish came swimming by - all the way from India. Suntory has been sparse on details regarding the 2017 release.
